" Connect to your inner journeys "
– a sound art project by sound artist Samuel André in Kyoto -
Japanese roasted tea (genmai-cha) will be served during the event. The tea is caffeine-free and has a relaxing effect.
Visitors can lie down on tatami mats, as is done in Japan, find peace, and immerse themselves in the sound journey.
" Kyo no natsu " (Summer in Kyoto)
In a series of recordings made during the summer lockdown in Kyoto, Samuel André weaves together intimate and ephemeral moments:
Verses of Heian poetry at the Imamiya Shrine , The Tanabata Festival, Fireworks over the Kamogawa River, Children playing in the water in the summer heat... All of this is accompanied by the song of cicadas.
From these sounds emerge simple musical motifs
that reflect Kyoto's wabi-sabi aesthetic –
a city where beauty resides in imperfection:
the perfection of imperfection.
The Kyoto Week project is supported by the City of Cologne.
